Maria works for Givaudan, as Head of Collaborative Innovation – Global Science and Technology. Givaudan is the global leader in the fragrance and flavour industry and active as well in cosmetic ingredients.
Before joining Givaudan, Maria has worked for DSM Nutritional Products (part of Royal DSM) as Innovation Project Director. In her role, Maria led several global multidisciplinary teams, as well as external collaborations targeted at developing new food ingredients.
Prior to DSM Maria was Technology Transfer Director of a non-profit organization in the Health Care field, belonging to the Public Sector of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, in the south of Spain. In such role she led the establishment of a new Technology Transfer Office.
Maria has studied Biology at the University of Lisbon, Faculty of Sciences in Portugal. She has pursued a PhD in Biomedical Sciences, as an exchange student at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School, studying Angiogenesis in a Cancer environment. After finishing her PhD, she has moved to Spain, to a Post-Doc position in the field of eye development. While doing her post-doc, she decided to take an MBA which led her to put an end to her “hands on” research career and move into the Technology Transfer field, more specifically into the health sector. Within the Technology Transfer subject, Maria has been specializing on Negotiation and IP strategies for which she has acquired special training from the Harvard Negotiation Institute at Harvard Law School and from the Harvard Business School.
Maria is a Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP), has been part of the ASTP Professional Development committee and is now member of the Board and chair of the ASTP-Proton Programming Committee.
