Thorsten Lambertus

Thorsten works for Europe’s largest application-oriented research institution, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in Germany. He is part of Fraunhofer Venture’s “Venture Lab“ headquartered in Munich, which provides incubation programs and services for all 69 Fraunhofer institutes and over 24.000 employees. Following its inception in 2013, Thorsten built up the 12-weeks FDays® incubation program that soon became a leading program in Germany’s high-tech venturing ecosystem with 50+ supported teams per year and participating teams from institutions, such as the Helmholtz Association, RWTH Aachen University, or the High-Tech Gründerfonds.

Before joining Fraunhofer Venture, Thorsten co-founded two startups based in Vienna, Austria. The first one was an eCommerce company focusing on an innovative concierge business model and the second one a SaaS and consulting business with focus on corporate venture incubation. The former was a total failure, the latter still exists, but Thorsten sold his shares in 2014.

Thorsten also worked as a consultant in the areas of innovation management, internet of things and energy. Clients were industry leaders, such as Porsche, Vodafone, Continental, or Loewe. Moreover, he built up a startup garage in Vienna that still bridges entrepreneurship activities between several, Vienna-based universities.

From an academic perspective, Thorsten holds a PhD in Management from Vienna University of Economics and Business with a dissertation on business model design. He is a business engineer by training with a major in technology and innovation management combined with civil engineering.
