Niall Shanley

Wayra UK is Telefónica’s UK global start-up accelerator and is widely regarded as the most successful start-up accelerator outside of the US. Niall is responsible for negotiating investments in technology companies, joint ventures, partnerships, Wayra’s investments and general legal matters for Wayra as they arise. Niall’s work includes direct investments, portfolio management, joint ventures, partnership projects and subsequent investment/provision of service documentation as required for our multiple locations such as Wayra’s General Investment Call in London, Wayra and University of Edinburgh AI & Blockchain Acceleration, Wayra Transport Systems Catapult Intelligent Mobility Accelerator in Milton Keynes, Wayra & Novartis Health Call (The Health Hub) in London, NCSC Cyber Accelerator in Cheltenham, GCHQ Manchester Engineering Accelerator, Fair by Design in Oldham and Velocity Health.

Niall is also currently the Senior Lawyer and In House Counsel for Telefónica’s group operations in Ireland and Group Company Secretary. Niall’s work in the group has been advising the board on all aspects of intergroup finance and general legal queries relevant to multi-jurisdictional high value transactions within Telefónica’s Global Group Finance Organisation. He also advises the board of Telefónica Europe People Services Limited (Telefónica’s European human resources hub) since April 2015, which traditionally supported the HR requirements of Telefonica’s Europe operation but now primarily focuses on O2 UK and Telefonica UK.

Prior to Telefonica, Niall worked as a general practising Barrister across Ireland working all legal matters (criminal, commercial and civil).”
